Finding The Best Home Schooling Resource!

When you are new to homeschooling, you will probably begin searching for the best home school resource that you can find. Deciding to homeschool takes a lot of careful thought and planning as it is, then after you make the decision to homeschool you have even MORE work to do. Do not panic though; there is a lot of help available. The only problem you might have is finding the resources you need to guide you through the process.

Homeschooling is going to require some effort on your part. Believe me; working with your children is usually the easy part. The hard part is getting organized to the point that you are confident with your school structure and curriculum, as well as your record-keeping processes. This is where the best home schooling resource will come in handy.

We live in Ohio, so in our state - we start by sending what is called a “letter of intent” to the superintendent of our local school board. Basically this letter states that we intend to home school our boys, and we also need to include a basic outline of the curriculum we will be using for the year. Every state has it’s own policies, so start by calling the superintendent of your own local board of education.

There are other resources that you can contact, but start with your local board of education. Each state an country, having their own laws - will be found by contacting your own superintendent of the school district in which you live.

The best home school resource you can get is a local home school group. There will be much more experienced homeschooling families that will be able to lead you through some of the things that they have already encountered. They will also help share in teaching duties, carpools to different functions, come up with fun classes and super field trips. You will gain a whole new perspective on homeschooling by finding a good local homeschool group.

Personally, some of my best home school resources come from right online. That’s where I found my own homeschooling group, and a ton of great information. Folks online share things that they learn about, including fun FREE activities for homeschoolers! We got a chance to head to our local Zoo completely FREE just by paying attention to our groups posts. Your kids will love you for taking them out to socialize with the other homeschooling families.

You will find that homeschooling blogs are particularly helpful because other homeschooling parents will post comments, suggestions, tips, tricks, and yep - even free stuff when they hear about it. You will want to find other homeschooling families with blogs in your area, even Yahoo groups - so you can take advantage of the local free opportunities that come along. The online community will provide an excellent place for you to learn, grow, and contribute. Your children will benefit because you are taking advantage of all that is offered!
