The Spanish language is a truly powerful language and is considered to be the Romance language. Anywhere, you see and hear newscasts, TV shows, movies and books written in Spanish. Paulo Coelho and Gabriel Garcia Marquez take the lead in introducing the Spanish literary power to the whole world.
Numbers Booboos
Desecrations of the Spanish language are rampant, however. People display wrong interpretations of Spanish numbers.
Chad Johnson, from the National Football League, is among the people who is guilty of number blunders. His jersey, numbered 85, spells out “ocho cinco.” Anyone familiar with numbers would know that the correct translation for 85 is “ochenta y cinco.” It is of the opinion that he changes the number or he changes his name.
People commonly commit errors in writing dates in the Spanish language. Unlike US dates that are written as month-date-year, Spanish dates use this format: date/month/year. However, if dates are spelled out in words and numbers, this format is correct: 14 de augusto 2008. One significant thing to remember is that in Spanish, the first letters of the months aren’t capitalized.
How to Refrain from Committing These Blunders
Still widely seen as one of the best ways to avoid these booboos in numbers, Spanish classes will allow you to practice reciting the numbers in their right order. And when you do memorize these numbers, you can take full advantage of the Spanish number system!
Advantages of Knowing
The significance of understanding the proper formatting of Spanish number is amplified because of the dominance of Spanish-speaking corporations. If you work in a large corporation, you will agree that often, you’ll find some Spanish elements in certain documents such as shipping and emails. Because proper communication is essential in any workplace, it is imperative that you know the Spanish number system by heart.
If you are into Mexican food, there is more than enough reason for you to familiarize yourself with Spanish numbers. Most restaurants catering to Mexican food speak little or no English at all. Thus, to avoid needless inconvenience brought about by miscommunication, might as well take the time to learn those Spanish numbers.
If you live in a huge city with a Hispanic community, like Miami and Los Angeles, you’ll certainly come across Spanish-speaking fellows who possess little knowledge of the English language. Or, if they happen to speak English, they will still opt to use their native language. At least, if you know Spanish, you can wander around town easily sans the fear of communication breakdowns brought by misunderstandings about the fare and distance, si?
Ultimately, being familiar with Spanish numbers also means more understanding of the Spanish language. Later in your Spanish lessons, you’ll learn that these numbers in Spanish also function as pronouns. The mastery of these Spanish numbers will make you appreciate the uniqueness of this romantic language.
Así pues, ahora comience sus lecciones españolas y aumente su número de amigos y de negocio.
